About Richardson Farm – Foster, RI

Richardson Farm is rooted in a rich agricultural history dating back to the 1800s, when it operated as a poultry farm. Much of the original stonewall was sold off in efforts to save the farm— and sadly lost the historic red barn... but we’re now working to restore it to its former glory.

Though not new to farming—both Matt and I worked on apple orchards as teenagers—we took a leap in 2019, leaving behind our small city garden to move to the countryside and pursue our dream and raise our family. We bought the original property and began clearing the land ourselves, relocating thousands of iris bulbs and beloved perennials to their new home.

In 2021, we broke ground on a farmhouse, and by 2022, Richardson Farm officially came to life with 22 apple trees, 15 blueberry bushes, and our ever-growing flower and vegetable gardens. In 2024, we added maple syrup and launched our CSA program—just before tragedy struck.

That spring, a devastating fire claimed our home, our beloved dog and cat, and all of our possessions. Soon after, an unexpected opportunity arose: our beloved neighbors asked if we would take over the farm across the street. Bittersweet but we couldn’t say no. Now, as the new stewards of this beautiful 20-acre property, we’re honored to carry on its legacy and share its bounty with our community.

Don’t Judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.

Robert Stevenson

It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.

F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Comforter I think the easing of travail comes best upon a woodland trail where scented pine and mighty oak. Tranquility and calm evoke- Where dappled shadows gently sway and breezes lift all care away. Where warbler, oriole, and wren proclaim in every glade and glen: There is nothing wrought by man That comforts more than nature can.
